Lockdown Learning: Painting for the first time

With the whole country and most of the world being on lockdown, it’s no surprise that I, like many other people, have a lot of time on my hands.

So instead of wasting this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do whatever I liked, I thought I’d try my hand at something new – painting!

Other than a very careless approach at school, I’ve never really tried my hand at painting. This is for several reasons but mainly because I tell myself that I don’t have the patience or time to sit myself down and actually do it.

In my normal day to day life, I do a fair few watercolour tattoos, and I love the subtle soft look of watercolour paintings, so I thought I’d start there.

I’d recently designed a watercolour rose to be used as a tattoo design, so thought ‘why not try painting it!?’ This the result below:

Now I’m very aware that there’s a lot of improvement that needs doing but overall I’m pretty pleased with it. So much so that I’ve had prints made of this piece and of a daffodil piece I painted after too.

These are available to buy on my Bigcartel found in the ‘Shop’ section of the drop-down menu. I’ll be adding some more smaller pieces too as I expand my knowledge and practice of watercolour.

Thanks for reading!
